Kanopy is a streaming service specializing in classic films, independent films, documentaries, and world cinema. You won't find the latest Hollywood blockbuster, but the catalog includes some award winning indie hits. The catalog of over 30,000 films is far above the bargain bin titles found on the ad-supported free services.
Access to Kanopy is free with your library card from participating libraries. With many Canadians libraries moving to a free card model, access to Kanopy may be completely free for you. Typically the library will allow a certain number of play credits per month, e.g. 10. Each film play will use one credit. Play credits reset at the start of the next month and do not roll over. Unfortunately there is no standalone option to access Kanopy. You must be a member of a participating library.
